Some Roxbury Residents Shocked By City Councilor Turner's Arrest

BOSTON - November 21, 2008 - Some Boston residents are shocked and dismayed by City Councilor Chuck Turner's arrest on federal corruption charges. It's the second arrest of a Boston government official in a federal probe.
City Council President Maureen Feeney says she is removing Turner from his committee assignments and calling a special meeting for the city council Monday to discuss the situation.
Turner was arrested Friday morning for allegedly accepting a $1,000 bribe from an undercover agent and then lying about it.
Meanwhile, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino says he's disappointed. "It's frustrating for me. It's very frustrating for me. We are supposed to be here to help people."
Council President Feeney says the charges are disturbing. "I remain outraged at the recent disgrace brought to public service. The public is right to expect more from its elected leaders. We must -- and we will -- work hard to restore their confidence."
And Roxbury resident Anthony Baker says the news is pretty hard to swallow. "This is real serious. If Chuck Turner turns out that he was involved with something. This is going to hit the community real hard."
The FBI started investigating Turner in connection with a corruption probe into state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, who resigned Wednesday following federal corruption charges.
