Patriots, Fed Team Up
By Curt Nickisch

Listen to story (Real Audio)

BOSTON - August 12, 2008 - The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is bringing people on the brink of foreclosure together with their mortgage lenders in an unlikely location...Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.

WBUR?s Curt Nickisch reports.

NICKISH: The Boston Fed is teaming with the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation to open the stadium?s premiere skybox to struggling homeowners. They?ll be able to go over their paperwork with one hundred loan officers and non-profit advisors. Fed spokesman Tom Lavelle says it?s so much easier than cutting through all the red tape over the phone.

LAVELLE: Usually it?s competition that brings out the best. On this occasion the best is coming together and reaching out to our fellow citizens in need.

NICKISH: Lavelle says not everyone who attends will be able to get better terms on their mortgage. But he says for people who are able to show that they could make their payments with reasonable terms, this is their chance.
