BOSTON, Mass. - July 24, 2008 - As the foreclosure rate has risen, so too has the number of people needing help for the stress. The pressures are leading to mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety disorders, and addictive behaviors.
Mental health professionals say the prospect of losing one's home is akin to losing the sense of self. They say it's crucial to talk about the problems, and are counseling people in ways to cope.
To talk about it all, WBUR's Deb Becker turns to David Mischoulon. He's a psychiatrist in the depression research program at Massachusetts General Hospital and an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
