Tom and Ray Magliozzi

Car Talk

Tom and Ray Magliozzi, a.k.a. "Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers,” grew up in East Cambridge Massachusetts. Both graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and opened a do-it-yourself garage in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As car repair became more complicated, the Magliozzi brothers began offering more conventional car repair service.

In 1977, along with other area mechanics, they were invited to WBUR to discuss car repairs on a talk show. The Magliozzis subsequently were given their own program, Car Talk, which soon attracted a large local following.

In January 1987, "Click and Clack" reached an even broader audience when host Susan Stamberg asked them to be weekly contributors to National Public Radio's Weekend Edition. On October 31, 1987, Car Talk premiered as a national program presented by National Public Radio.
